Default Would it be too far? Help!!

Hiya!

Having a bit of a dilema and would love some help haha!

I'll start from the beginning hehe! Right..currently I am living about a 15 min drive away from Edge Hill where I will be starting in September. I hopefully will have passed my driving test by then but won't be able to afford a car so will be having to travel by train.

However, my boyfriends family own a hotel in Wales and have offered him the chance of joining them to help run it. I really want him to do what he wants, which is run the hotel but I will miss him if I cant see him for three years whilst doing this degree.(hotel is about an hour and a half drive away from me when no traffic)

My boyfriends family have offered to buy me a car to travel to and from uni if I want to live there part time but I don't know whether this will be a strain for me and the course/placements?

hope that makes sense lol, HELP!!

Blimey decisions decisions . . .Its a toughy. Is the hotel where your boyf wants to be? Are you currently living together ?
What I would say is . . . If you are having to leave 3 hours a day to travel backwards and forwards, when would you have time to see him ? Hotel work is very unsociable anyway, surely a pre arranged evening, weekend, afternoon together is better than a brief 20 minutes chat on the landing each morning. You both look like you have dreams to follow . . the rest will work its self out. I say stay where you are !!

Thanks Cathryn for your sensible answer haha! I never even considered the time I will actually be spending with him inbetween uni, sleep, placements haha!

Yeah, well I would say he was 99% sure! He is in his last yr of a business degree and is confused about what he wants to do! He sees the hotel as an opportunity he cannot miss!

We havn't moved in together yet but were hoping to do so once he finished his degree....adding to the dilema haha! woooa its one big confusion!

heya,
i agree with Cathryn, its hard enough having a long distance relationship, but then is it worth the travelling? Think about it after a 12 hour shift having to drive another hour n a half?

It seems you both want different things from your life, which is fine and your relationship could work out fine, but i think you need to sit down and have a talk with him and make up your mind. Its your life after all, do you think he would drive an hour n a half to go to work if you moved elsewhere and he came with?

Hope it all works out

Where abouts in Wales? Is there a uni closer that does midwifery?

Also, you said they'd offered you a car if you live there part-time - that wouldn't be soo bad - if you've got a few days between shifts etc head down - maybe work three long shifts in a row - then you've four days off?? to get and see your man Some parts of the course are more flexible than others!

Do keep us posted though - I love a good love story! As my granny always said - what's meant to be will be!

btw - my partner did his masters in sheffield while we lived in bristol - started it when the girls were about 3 months old - could only come home for a weekend every few months because of the cost - that was 4 years ago - he's been home for a year now and looking back it flew by! True love will out!

Hiya Everyone!

Aw Holliep, that sounds lovely haha, I will keep you updated, as I am still in utter confusion atm lol!

I was wondering whether their would be a closer uni you know! The hotel is in North Wales so anywhere round there haha!

My only concern with that is that I tried so hard for this place and am scared to go through it again, maybe not getting in! Plus, I really like Edge Hill lol!

Arghhh!

Was just thinking swansea and cardiff - but don't know about north wales. Have a look on ucas. I'd still take the place at edge hill - you can see how it all pans out and if you do find a closer course you could transfer - which should be pretty straight forward - everyones a winner!

ohh emsi what a dilema, I agree with the others it would be so hard to do that much travelling.

Its a pitty you had no idea of this before now because you could have also applied to bangor uni which may have made things a little easier.

em you will have to keep me upto date with this one,

oh and by the way I drive and will hopefully be able to car share with a few of our cohort, (because the price of petrol has gone through the roof) so if you live on the way to uni then i would happily pick you up chick. x x

aw thanks mich! That's really nice of ya! Sounds like a really good idea, then we can all chip in to your petrol costs! Sure we can go over it nearer to when we start wooo, can't wait haha!

I have decided to stick at edge hill cos its somehwere I really wanna go! and if need be I could always try for a transfer to bangor in the coming years! but three years of training will fly by anyway!

Thanks kate I will! Think Bangor would be the closest as its 15 miles away from the hotel!
