Default BMid vs BSc Midwifery - What's the difference?

Hi there,

Just wondering if any of you intelligent guys out there now what the difference is between the Bachelor of Midwifery and the Bachelor of Science (Midwifery)????

Does the course content differ somewhat or it is more the qualification title?

I've noticed that uni's offering the BMid tend to say the NHS bursary is 'non-means tested' where as the BSc bursary is means tested.

Any thoughts...

Is there actually any difference or is it a similar course?

As far as I'm aware, there is actually virtually no difference between the courses; the Universities themselves decide whether to grant a BSc, BA or BMid. They all lead to RM status.

With regard to the BMid bursary being non-means tested, I believe it appears this way because the majority of the BMid courses are at Welsh universities. The Welsh NHS give non-means tested bursaries to all their healthcare students, regardless of whether they are studying at diploma or degree level.

There are a few universities in England that offer a BMid (such as Southampton), and their bursaries are means-tested, the same as with a BSc or BA degree.

Hope that makes sense! XX

i think one is diploma non means tested and the other is degree means tested. BSC is the degree.

Hope this helps

Yes, they are both degree courses - that's why I'm confused as to what the difference in the title means!! If they both lead to RM status than surely there isn't much difference? I think Scallywag must be right about what she said re: Wales and degrees.

I think it's tomayto, tomahto. I know that PhD's are called DPhils by Oxford and Cambridge, it's the same thing, they just like to call them something different, perhaps it's the same with BSc and BMid?
