What a great idea for a thread Monroe.
![]() I know you have stationary down on your list, but for uni I would say: Plenty of clear plastic wallets to keep your handouts etc in a readable condition. I found dividers very useful for my files, I could seperate the topics then, and it is easier to find what I wanted. Lever arch files for putting your handouts and work into, and also a couple of the thin files to carry back and forth to uni. Saves carrying big heavy files around. A seperate folder for your clinical documents to keep them clean, and so you don't lose them. If I think of anything else I will add it.

Great thread, Monroe!
I would also add loads of pens as they'll run out, and box files (lots of them) for home to store all of your articles and journals in. Also plastic report wallets for putting your essays in for hand in. A small pocket size notebook for placement, and a larger one for making midwifery notes after shifts, births witnessed, questions you have for your mentor etc... Loads of ink cartridges/ refills for your printer and loads of print paper too as you use tons and tons of both! Take your VE guide with you as soon as you get into hospital, and lots to remember cards too, they come in handy. A good hole puncher and stapler too, for articles and for essays.

for me and to save my back, a bag on wheels to put all those heavy library books in!
a thesaurus - i have used this more than any midwifery book, good for finding words when you are putting someone else words into your own a dictionary - dont rely on the spellcheck!

Hi
![]() Would like to add: Always make your own lunch and take your own drinks! I know its a bit of an effort (it is for me anyway! ) but it saves pounds each week. The Uni cafes, refectories (or whatever they may call them) are not cheap and it all adds up. I am so tight that I take my own tea bags to uni and just buy a cup of hot water (20p) and make my own tea!!! With Tea 65p for a small cup I save loads! Ceci |

Don't worry - that's only from the cafeterias! Wards etc have kitchen facilities, but in our Uni there isn't a common room for student MWs so at break time when we're in school we have to shell out!
My big tip would be that if you can bear to contain yourself, don't shell out on the textbooks just yet. It's so tempting, but I spent £100 on the bare bones on the 'recommended' list we got and I've used library books just as much. I'd also add a flash drive / memory stick to the list - rather than printing out everything I use it as my personal library. This also means that you've got all your Uni stuff in one place rather than split between your home computer and Uni. But make sure you keep it on a lanyard, or you'll forget it and someone will nick it...
