Nails???!

Hi

This is an odd one but will ask it anyway

I've worn nail extensions for years, went i went a couple of weeks ago i decided to have them taken off for good as i know i won't be able to have them on in hospital for hygene reasons.

Well amazingly enough my nails underneath are fab - so what happens with those, will i need to keep them cut down - just not sure what the rules are - if anyone knows would be really grateful of any advice

Wow your lucky my nails were like paper when i took mine off!

Anyway I think they do have to be short.

What is classed as short though? Cos I would class short as maybe different to others.. to me, short is with about 5mm of white showing, others would say no white?

I think a little bit of white is short, definetly not no white!! That feels horrible!!

That made me cringe thinking of cutting them down so you cant see any white!!!!

I class short as when if you turn your hands over, palms up and you cant see the nail popping over the top.

They'll need to be short, that is not over the length of your fingers, past the point of them if that makes sense?

Though some midwives have talons, as students we are not allowed.

Pity as it's nice having them long !

Thats just my opinion though, i have seen people with them longer.

I just think when your palpating, especially to see how many fifths palpable the fetal head is it would be a lot more comfortable for the woman if your nails were shorter.

and for VE's... even with gloves on... i've seen women moan about other midwives long nails!
