Definately fight this honey - you got accepted for a good reason - to be rejected for this is ridiculous especially as you said your attendance in the last year has been much better

This really gets my goat - you are being punished for being ill. I really do think most employers discriminate strongly against people with mental health problems. Let's face it, your few days off here and there are no problem at all - it's the longer periods for stress / depression that they don't like. In some ways I understand because 15 days out of school / placement would be difficult to make up. But it does seem incredibly harsh...

I started being a proper soap-boxer about this because I think it's important that people recognise that just because it isn't visible, doesn't mean it isn't real.

I have an analogy, and I apologise in advance if it offends anyone, it is only meant to promote thought. Say you were diagnosed with cancer, and had a period of 100 days off for your initial treatment, and 15 days off when you were ill later. Would the NHS refuse to accept you on the course in case you relapsed? Absolutely not, but it seems that is exactly the judgement call they are making with you.

If stress / depression has been a long-term issue for you then it is worth looking into the legislative side of this. If these two occasions were the only significant times you've been off with S/D then I'd be inclined to get in touch with them and explain the circumstances. Did they get in touch with your GP? Might be worth going to see him/her and finding out what they wrote - if you are feeling well and capable now a letter from them explaining that might just do the trick. Please don't give up!

Are you happy to talk about this in a public forum? If not I'll happily have a huge PM conversation with you, and I'll understand if you don't reply further!

Oh, and I agree with Claire - your attendance for the last year is great. Were the periods off associated with stressful life events?

This is really awful. Did you explain to them your reasons for being off sick? I had to explain similar things at my OH appt but they were very understanding to my circumstances. Really hope you get it sorted out x

MrsJD This is awful and very unfair. I really hope you fight for your place and get it back. What about people who haven't been in work in the last 2 years but have still suffered stress or depression, they wouldn't get turned down, so it's like punishing you because you have been in work.

I'm so sorry to hear your news Mrs JD.

As Claire says, it could have implications for a few of us. I have just had 8 months off with depression, which I have recently found was caused by the Mirena coil and has now been removed.

I sit crying as I realise that now my dream may be over too...x
