Default Is this the norm?

Went to a pre course day at uni a couple of weeks ago and they explained that at the end of year 1, we have a 14 week placement.

They also explained that the three weeks holiday at the end of the year are taken as you would take from a normal job ie u have to decide what time you want off then apply for it.

Is this the norm for the midwifery degree?

Do we get any time between the end of placement and the start of the new year? I just dont want to have to go from placement straight into a new year within a day or so.

any advice?

Im going to BCU if any one knows?

Hi - I think all the unis are different (we had to research this as part of the access course). Where I am going we get 7 weeks holiday total (2 weeks Christmas, 2 weeks Summer, 2 weeks Easter, 1 week Whitsun) and that is it. Straight through for three years. Placement and uni every week, whereas another uni I researched practically had the whole summer off (as long as you were up to date with everything) and other weeks plus placement and uni were alternately in blocks. It wasn't practical for me to attend this uni though due to lots of travelling (my two children to look after as well). x

Yep - perfectly normal! Though lucky you being able to negotiate prefered holiday! Thats great! We've just done 10 weeks of a 13 week placement - are on our summer break now, back for the final 3 weeks - my last shift is the 28th sept - start year 2 on the 29th!!

If you want a break between the years - maybe try and book your summer break for at the end of the 14week placement??

Where I am we get a negotiated three weeks off in summer. I have actually managed to get the week off before we go back in September, which I am really pleasaed about.
