I agree totally - I've been an MCA for 2 years and have loved it.

Re: 1st day as Maternity HCA
The one thing that has surprised me though- swerving from the topic a little, is the amount of people who have asked if I'm going to do my training, and have said to go down the nursing route 1st, cos it's "better". Dont understand that- i really dont want to do general first xx

Re: 1st day as Maternity HCA
Sometimes people think it is better to train the old way but it has been proved that the new way works well too. I am sure they mean well and I would say to you to just smile and nod .

Re: 1st day as Maternity HCA
Mmm yeah, think it maybe cos most of them have done their training that way. Each to their own eh, no good way or bad way, just whatever suits you personally.

Re: 1st day as Maternity HCA
Got my interview for MCA job tomorrow, aaah! Really want this job, but can't focus at the moment. My daughter has gone away with her dad just now for 10 days!!! Never been without her for that long, ever!
What to wear for interview, preparation etc? Help x

Re: 1st day as Maternity HCA
Ooh good luck to you! i just wore typical white top, black trousers- cant go wrong!
Just be yourself, and try to relax, i know it's really hard though! Make sure u know about the unit you've applied to, what services they offer etc. I got asked questions about infection control, patient confidentiality and time management -I think these are mandatory in any hospital post. Also got asked what I think the role entails and why I should get the job!
Hope this helps and you are lucky hun, fingers crossed for you xxx
