Default Any single mums cope with shift work?

Hi,
I've been offered an MCA job. Am so excited as will be great experience for me! Only problem i've got is that its shift work and obviously some nights. I'm a single mum with 6 year old daughter.
Anybody else manage the shifts/child thing? x

Ollybolly is the single mum queen of info!

She manages with a good childminder and a few decent mates (such as myself ()

Your family could help you out too?

Edited to add, she is a birroff a diamond too and helps me out in many ways too, more than she knows in fact!

hi there, single mum queen speaking!
I have 2 little ones and it is very do-able, but takes planning and having a good support network to get you through it.
If you make a list of all the possible people you can call on to help you out, hopefully the list will be quite long. I then tend to use said list on a rotation so people dont get asked too often! Tbh, I really hate asking for help, but sometimes you have to just swallow your pride and do it otherwise your life stands still and you never achieve anything. Smwife does help me out and i thank her dearly for it. There are also others in the cohort in the same position who i can approach if needs be.
The main things that really help me are having a totally fab indespensible childminder who helps me out a lot, and comes and stays (for a premium price!) when i have a night shift, and also having my Mum nearby helps a lot as well as she can have the kids overnight at a weekend.
good luck
x
ps - what about an au pair???

luck of the draw i guess. |tried to find the most flexible one i could, not many will stay over, but my CM's kids are all >18 now so she has more flexibility. I try not to ask her too often as it costs me about £110 for the night!!!

i know CB - especially as all she really does is say goodnight to the kids and sleep in my bed!! Having said that, she does get them up and out of the house and to school in the morning so i can come home and collapse after a night shift in peace.
My childcare costs for times spent on placement can reach £300 some weeks, its a complete nightmare and am well skint!! But would rather pay her than relying on friends ALL the time, this way I am poor but retain some pride!
