Default Our Student Mentor Scheme, Policy & Role Definition

Hi all

As you know I have been working on recruiting to and publicising this for a little while and have now written the policy, role description and had the certificate formatted. Please find the policy attached and role drescription attached.

The role of the student mentor is to befriend a prospective/current/soon to be student midwife and support them with the process of applying/orientating to the local area and all other local student midwife matters. You will recieve an official StudentMidwife.Net student mentor certificate for your CAP document. I would suggest all student mentors print off the policy and role description and also add this to their CAP document. The scheme and positions will be reviewed regularly to ensure the scheme and matching system is effective.

Here are some suggestions as to the role of the student mentor.....
  • Contact via this site and support with orientation of process of applying, help with personal statements, general encouragement and friendship
  • Chats via msn or email
  • Meet up, chats, coffee, show them around your Uni or site
  • All of the above plus whatever feels right i.e. my unofficial buddys and I ate far too much pudding and had a really lovely time during my wannabe days (and they are both now Admins on my site, both RM's and I still count them as my best mates).
From a good deed can come great friendship (and an increased waistline!).

Please feel free to PM smwife or myself to discuss further. If you would like to have a student mentor look after you then please post a new thread with your Uni name in the title so you can all find one another!

I didnt want to be too prescriptive at this stage as I feel its up to the student mentors and the mentees how they go about things........ I just felt we needed some kind of guideline now that its taking off, Missy the Student Mentor!

I agree, it is good to have some guidelines, we can then interpret them according to each others idea's, needs and time etc.

Oooooh, all official now.
