Assessment of neonatal condition at birth, named after Virginia APGAR and also an acronym
Appearance (colour) Pulse Grimace Activity Respiration up to 2 points for each, so out of 10 |

An assesment of the infant at one minute after birth and at five mins. It is a summary of how healthy the infant appears. It looks at five areas and scores them from zero to two. The higher the score the healthier the baby.
It scores on heart rate skin colour irratability breathing and muscle tone

What do you look for when checking a placenta and how big is it in relation to the baby?

Check for 3 vessels within the cord, 2 membranes, wether it is complete, how it looks - grainy, patchy etc, smell (nice!). Not sure about size in relation! 1/2 the weight? Guessing yet again!
