Default New feature:: Glossary of Midwifery Terms

Dear Members,

It falls upon my shoulders to announce the launch of something to help the lives of students and wannabe's alike. You would have already noticed the continued building of the 'educational resources' section and now Rob has almost finished programming a new feature which will make everyone's lives easier.

Our new glossary section will be made live within the hour.

Where a term is defined in the glossary (eg. APH) it will be crossed linked throughout the entire site back to the glossary.

Eg. In this post (once glossary is activated) you will notice the term APH (and others further down) is underlined in a specific way. Words that are underlined in this way mean that a glossary term exists for it. Clicking on that term will take you through to a definition.

Glossary terms interlink automatically. For instance in the glossary definition of the term Polydipsia, the 'possible causes' section lists Gestational Diabetes and Polyuria among others. These terms will in turn be linked back to their glossary definitons. The good news is that the glossary functions across all posts on the site. Be they in the job section, news section, private messages, forum threads and posts and also in our upcoming blogs.

When you are posting around the site and you notice little green underlined links have appeared in your post then you'll know the glossary system is functioning properly.

Keep an eye out for the glossary section. It will be made available shortly. Bear in mind the glossary is under constant construction and now that the technology behind it is built, we need help to build it up - hopefully with yours!

Users can post 'new' threads within the glossary and are encouraged to do so... these will however need to be checked out and approved by a moderator - purely to keep the integrity of the glossary in tact. When you post within the glossary area, moderators will be alerted to your post automatically and review your addition. We will endeavor to notify everyone when their additions go live.

I hope everyone can see the benefit of this feature and how it will help us to build a more effective resource for students and wannabe's alike.

Eyes peeled

This is wonderful! Especially as I've noticed that we sometimes use different terms/abbreviations! Now I don't have to ask: what is.....?

yeah tracyb ... if you post a new thread in the glossary section all about PPH then as soon as a moderator has approved it, it will be made live. All occurences of PPH or 'post partum haemorrhage' (did i spell that right?) across the entire site will then get linked to the glossary page. This happens retrospectively to old posts too. Clever huh?
