Smile Route in to Midwifery?

Hiya,

Just a quick question, how many people got into midwifery through the straight degree course and how many on the fast track?

Its just with all my hopes pinned on Hudds now, Im wondering what to do if i dont get in there? Do I get a job and try again next year or do I try and get onto a nursding degree and follow it up with the fast track course?

Am getting confused and suppose I should just wait and see but am getting panicky now!

xx

Im not sure of the exact figures but I do know that some nursing students applied for midwifery and didnt get in so felt they would do the nursing degree and then the 18 month midwifery course. Alot of my 18 month friends feel 18 months is not long enough even with a nursing background as the roles are so very different. 3 years is a long time to study nursing if your heart isnt in it tho....

There are other options like getting a job related to midwifery or caring and that would boost your chances next year. However, you may have a place... sit tight!

Go for what feels right x

Thanks for your replies,

I dont really want to be a nurse and three years is a long time, but I guess I should just wait and see what happens with Huuddersfield! Just dont like all the waiting around, I want to know what is going to happen! Guess I must just be a bit impatient! Haha!

If you don't want to be a nurse, then there is your answer.

think you also need to look at whats available in your area....

i know some places only offer 18 month course where as others may only offer 3 year course (more likely) and if you have no real interest in nursing in can be a struggle to get through it.... but i think its also good to keep your options open as you can never tell whats around the corner...

eg some people have their heart set on midwifery and when they start realise its not what they thought it would be others might reluctantly go down other routes like nursing and find its better than they thought (obviously some will hate it too)

and also when it comes to opting for the 18 month course many unis are stopping their courses and trusts are stopping providing secondments so it may well be easier to get on a 3 year course than an 18 month one
