Default Access Course.. Which One??

Hello all!!

Sorry I am bit of a SM virgin so you'll have to excuse me!!

I am visiting the college tomorrow regarding the access course but have a question I was hoping you would be able to comment on..

There are two relative access courses I can opt from;

Nursing and Healthcare
Subject Options: Psychology, human biology
or
Science and Technology
Subject Options: (Choosing two) Mathematics, Physics or Psychology, Biology or Human Biology, Chemistry

The University have told me two different things, 1, to do a course that would cover Biology and 2, to do a course that covers Human Biology..

From what I have read, I think my best option to go for would be Nursing and Heathcare, Psychology and Human Biology... Please please can you let me know what you think as the experts.

Thank you, Sam

Personally I'd go for one that covers TWO or more modules of science including either human biology/physiology.

Re: Nursing and Healthcare one, the access I've just finished is Access to Nursing, Midwifery and Health professions. Sounds similar. Science wise we did Human Physiology and Cell Biology.

Also, check which offers the more flexibility for gaining extra credits as some unis require more than the average pass.

Good luck xx

I did Access to Health Professions... It covered anatomy and physiology, sociology, psychology, communications and research, application of number, numeracy for nursing and I.T

I found it very useful but not midwifery specific.

hi i am starting my access corse in september and i am doing subjects in science, english, maths, study skills and IT but i wouldnt worry too much ,your college should tell you exactly what is the right course into midwifery for you. tell them you want to be a midwife and they should point you in the right direction thats what i did, so good luck xx

I agree with you. I've done psychology and found it very interesting. I could also link the theories into midwifery and childbirth which was great!
Double check with the college and the university you want to apply to; they'll advise you as to what they would prefer!!
