Default Confused

I really really want to do midwifery. I am applying at Hull this year to start 2010, sheffield hallam to start 2009 and huddersfield to start 2009.
I have been told though that there is no midwifery jobs and they are struggling to employ midwives due to having no money?? Is this true? I know i'll get honest answers from you lot

Well, it depends where the trusts are, basically the majority of newly qualifieds are getting jobs, however, all trusts have their annual budgets for recruitment and often are unable to offer jobs until they have the finances.

The situation appears to be improving though, and is likely to be focussed heavily upon these next few years as a huge percentage of midwives retire, and the governemnt are forced to honour the recommendations on the provision of one-to-one care of labouring women.

There are jobs, and most of us will hopefully be ok, guess it isn't guaranteed and it really should be (as in Scotland) but campaigns don't seem to change anything

That was a good question to ask as I was wondering the same! Has the 1 year garenteed emplyment been implemented? I read about it last year but havn't seen anymore about it.
When I spoke to a current student about this as uni open day she said if you are prepared to go to where the jobs are you shouldn't have any problems.

Only in Scotland I'm afraid, not here as yet. Bonkers really considering the huge cost of training students.

Most newly-qualifeids gain employment in the trusts they train at, the most recent where I am based were offered hours after interview and later offered full-time contracts.

There do seem to be more jobs atm, and around the country. There are lots of applicants for some posts though
