I cant really see whats going on but it looks like she has a retained placenta as they are inserting their hand into her vagina and removing what looks like bits of placenta. A retained placenta is when the placenta is stuck basically and will not come away naturally or with the help of syntometrine.
Although the amount of blood looks like a PPH which is a huge blood loss, which is why there is so much of it. It may be that she has a retained placenta and while it is being removed in pieces she is bleeding heavily as the uterus cannot contract down as it still has bits of placenta attached. As for washing the baby under the tap!!! We certainly dont do that! If we wash babies at all after birth its because they are covered in Mec or blood and we would wash them with warm water and cotton wool, we certainly wouldnt squirt them with cleanser and them run them under the tap!

my god, what are they doing to that poor baby? so much for thermoregulation!!! I agree with J, she seems to be having some problems there, the quality is not very good so it is difficult to see, but deifnately looks retained. It looks awful, but then sometimes ones here do too, I would not like to watch it on video, it's bad enough being there sometimes ![]() ![]() That said most are great, very little blood (sometimes Liquor splirting everywhere though!!) and quiet clam and lovely

I just feel so sorry for that poor baby - they may as well of blasted it with a hose pipe - the water must of been cold too!! The mother didnt seem to have any contact with her baby at all - so much for skin to skin!!

Yeah i think it does look like a manual removal- i've only seen one so far and it was actually quite upsetting- but i suppose its better than leaving it in there!!! So much for the sterile technique there aswell- normally everybody is gowned up, whereas they look like they've only got scrubs on and normal gloves up to their wrist!!
And the poor baby, we definately dont do that here, in the majority of cases the mom is put skin-to-skin with her newborn asap after it has been dried off, but often isn't washed until the next day, except to change nappies etc.

I was shocked at seeing the baby washed under a tap :o
Poor thing. When I had my 2 - this was nearly 5 and 2 years ago mind you, baby wasn't bathed at all only top & tailed with cotton wool. That sink looked filthy, yuk!

I think this is from Thailand as i can understand a bit of what they are saying, though it's not very clear....... Something about 'what a big baby it is', and 'give him to mum to cuddle' at the end. I wonder if they were washing the baby so as not to frighten her with the amount of blood there is?

No, this is for registrars or consultants to do, and should always be done in theatre under a spinal anaesthetic. Horrific management, that woman looks defiled, awful.
