Default Studying A-level sociology without a tutor....

Hi, it's me again!

Just wondering if there's anyone out there who has studied A-level Sociology as a kind of 'independent' student, by which I mean he/she has not had a tutor, submitted coursework or attended classes but has passed the exam!! I contacted OCR (exam board) and they say it is possible as long as I select the non-coursework route but I get the impression they don't want to advise it!! The thing is, it's a topic that interests me, isn't avaliable on the Access course I'm looking at AND I can't afford another home-study course (already doing one!).

What kind of problems did you find, if any? What books did you find most useful (actually, that questions goes out to ANY sociology student!)?

Any thoughts, guys....

Felicity x

I did A level Sociology but at college, with tutors! Im surprised they expect you to be able to do it alone, esp without recommending a reading list.

A common general text book is haralambos - have a look at this http://www.haralambosholborn.com/

Hello Felicity,
I've just finished my doing A-level Sociology at college. The textbook we used were Sociology in Focus for OCR AS/A2 level hardly used it apart from using it for coursework. Our teachers made notes for us.
There are different modules to choose from it depends what topics you are interested here are the units I've done:
AS (1st yr) Culture and Socialisation (there are different modules/topics) I done Family, Individual & Society + coursework
A2 (2nd yr) Power & Control(there are different modules/topics) I done Education, Social Inequality & Difference + coursework
try this link to get a better understanding
