Default Applying for job as Personal Support in Maternity ward. Help!!

Hey,

As the title says im applying for a part time job in local maternity ward. Its as a health care assistant/Personal care. Its ideal for me. Would give me loads of experience and i would love love love it!!

Problem is as i thought, its a hard position to get. I havent had much experience in care type role (apart from being a mummy to 15 month and 9 week old) and mostly my experience to date has been Royal navy and clerical type positions. What could i put in application form to make me sound ace . Really want it!

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hiya - is it like a maternity care assistant/health care assistant role? They will be looking for someone who is flexible, willing to learn, able to work well as a team member...not necessarily someone who has prior care experience in a similar setting as they will usually be prepared to train the right person! Just sell yourself on your application form, paying particular attention to the fact that you work well as part of a team and are able to communiate with people at all different levels, you will need to understand the importance of confidentality and respect the women's dignity/privacy - someone who is keen to learn and willing to go "the extra mile" will be someone they are looking for! You will need to be well organised in your time management so you can use your clerical experience to highlight this - explain that you have been used to working to deadlines and having to prioritise your workload!!
Above all, be yourself and I'm sure you will be fine - good luck
xxx

Thanks alot for advice. Ive applied so fingers crossed. It would be ideal. Lady who is taking the interviews was explaining what i would be doing and it sounds fab!! Tried to get Voluntary work at local hospital but dont allow it. Told me i can go in and have a look around (know it preety well as have 15 month old and 9 week old, Ha) and have a chat with midwives and student midwives which would be good. Anyway thanks again, and heres hoping.x
