Default Advice please on timing for me being a midwife!

Basically ive been accepted to do my access course this september which is great and at the mo im doing a course on infection control. My children would be 2 1/2 and 1 1/2 if i applied for uni Sept 2009. Ive decided to wait until they are at school ( i think) so that its easier on us all. My question is this. Would it be pointless doing my access course now?? I think when you apply to uni they like to see you have done some education in last 3 years, if thats the case i may have to do another course in something else just beforehand?? What would you suggest?? I eventually want to be a midwife but trying to make it fair to my family and not abandon my children. Would it be worth doing access course still or putting it off??? So confusing.

Hiya, I don't have experience when its comes to access but if you do access now maybe you could some Open uni after to keep your brain busy and its also evidence or recent study. Its very hard to know the 'right time' to do this especially when you have kids to consider... maybe doing the access now would give you a better idea of how you'd juggle it all. There is alsways the guilt thing when your a mum, no matter what age they are... its something we all have to deal with but ours kids won't be worse off for us doing this its harder on the mums than the kids I think! xxx

Hi there Cazzaeve
Have you looked at the unis you like and what they say about recent study? One of the ones I liked the look of only wanted study done in the last 6 years, so you might be just fine with your Access done soon and then going when your children are older.

Hiya - yes it's hard to know what to do for the best isn't it?! I though evidence of recent study was in the last 5 yrs so that would mean your access would be fine to do now - having said that as already suggested you could do some distance learning to keep your hand in so to speak!!
