Like everyone has said, when you're inexperienced and a bystander, your mind goes into overdrive imagining the worst case scenario and emotion easily takes over... but when you are the midwife doing the resus, you are entirely focused on your actions, and not so much of the emotional side of it all... you follow the pathways and do the best that you can do, and you will reflect on it all afterwards rather than reflecting as it is all occuring, if you know what I mean. You'll be fine once you get a bit of experience in going in to 'catch' babies rather than deliver them.

Hi,
It sounds to me (although I have not even started my access course yet) that you have exactly what it takes to be a great midwife. You care, which is something that sometimes gets lost along the way. Also can I say if baby doesnt make it, it is more than acceptable to shed a few tears for the baby, and the family, believe me when I say the family wont be upset at this but rather it is a comfort, someone else cares too.
