Hiya Natalie and welcome!

First of all, you may still get in this year but I like your positive attitude for if you don't. How about volunteering like with homestart or at your local maternity ward?

Hello welcome to the site x

GAiniing experience is the best way of spending the year. Any care work is great, uni's love it. If possible something relevant like a MCA or NA, breastfeeding support worker with sure start. There are loads of possibilities.

Good luck!

I'm probably gonna have a year off too what i'm planning to do is get more hours at my very glamourous weekend job , to get some money for when I do get into uni. I've also just got some volunteer work on my local maternity ward, mostly filing and making tea but at least it's something related to midwifery!!
Might try and sort out some proper work experience too.
Maybe you could do stuff like that, and am sure the year will fly by!!! Hoping!
:-)

I would definately recommend travelling. If you have got the time to spare, and the time to earn the money!

There are loads of places where you can really make a difference and it looks great on your CV. Places like India, Africa, South East Asia, and South America have a lot of poverty and there are PLENTY of projects on the internet where you can volunteer in an orphanage/teach in schools etc etc. There's also some projects where you can gain medical experience abroad in Nursing or Midwifery. Travelling to places like Zambia/Cambodia will really open your eyes to the world especially if you live like they do, and don't take the touristy options.

I went to Thailand during my gap year for two months, did the whole orphanage + teaching thing and even ended up living in a monastry with monks for a little while.

Good luck whatever happens x

Natalie, hun. Gettting in on reserves is not an unsuccessful, you have a very good chance of getting in. They obviously see your potential, but had limited places! so please don't do yourself down!

Do with your time?

Well, IF you don't make it I would do nothing but spend lots of glorious days with your family, playing, laughing and enjoying your time together relaxing and having fun!

For work experience you could contact an independant midwife and spend a few days with her if possible, i did this and the unis were interested to hear about it at interviews.
Good Luck

For the next year i am going to work at being the best nurse possible, get reading esp A&P and drug calcs, get my personal statement somewhere near perfection, then apply when the time comes.

I might also look at doing some voluntary work or something like that if i have the time (sure i can find some).

Good luck with your work experience.
