Default recommended books??

Are there any books that people would recommend to use while on the access course? I was thinking in particular for the biology and psychology part.

I just used alot of books from the library. Andrew Northedge good study guide is useful in helping you write essays. Most AS level books are good for pyschology and sociology.

I've just completed my Access course successfully and use:

Basic Anatomy and Physiology by H.G.Q. Rowett (2nd Ed.)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Basic-Anatomy-...3286.m14.l1318

It is an 'older' book but for Access level was more than sufficient as it covered all the areas needed in the course with simple black and white drawings that were easy to understand.

This book helped me get top marks on my Human Biology test on the skeleton as I learnt the correct terms and was able to explain all the types of joints with simple drawings from the book.

I got it cheap off eBay so it is worth checking there first.

The other book I used and would hightly recommend was:

Boyle & Seniors' book 'Biology' which I got cheap off Amazon which was a used copy but in very good condition and well under the RRP.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Biology-Coll...5530524&sr=8-1

Those are the 2 most useful books for Biology!!!

I didn't invest in any psychology books, neither did my other class mates, we just used those in the Library and most of the other reference material was supplied by the tutor.

Saying that....your Library will also have all the types of books you need for the modules...so it is worth holding off until you have tried out those in the library first to see what has the most use for you! I didn't buy my books until 2 months after I started and only because they were always booked out and the most used by the tutors!

Hope that helps! x.

You will probably be given a book list when you start your Access course of the recommended books for your particular course.

We used Boyle & Senior 'Human Biology' for our Biology lessons, and I found the best Psychology book for an overview of the subject was Gross.

However, as the others have said, your library will more than likely have plenty of copies of the books you're most likely to need so it might be worth checking that out first.

Good luck with the course! X

The only books I bought were for the sociology part because we needed ones fairly specific and there were never enough in the library. I used the library for psychology and anatomy. I also found the BBC website very good for some of the anatomy assignments as there is quite a big health section and there's enough detail for the purposes of access.
