Default Entry requirements

Hello,

I'm sorry it's confused ole me again! Finally, with the help of everyone here things seem clearer to me and I've chosen the uni I want, enroled for Maths GCSE starting this sept, found the access course - Access to Midwifery through distance learning.... I feel all sorted on the decisions front......BUT...I'm confused with the UCAS points system. The Entry requirements are 240 points but my access course is only 60 points - eh?

I've chosed the Distance Learning centre because a few of you recomended it on this site and I've only just realised it doesn't give me the points I need - am I missing something and being really dumb??

Any help greatly appreciated!
xx

Hi hun, your access may be on a different points system, I got abit confused aswell as when I applied I had 180 UCAS points and needed to top up, so I did open university course but the points for OU courses are different to UCAS. In the end I contacted the uni I wanted to apply for and was told to look for a 30 point course. The best thing to do is probably to contact your uni and ask thier advice or someone here may know abit more about it than I do (sorry, I'm not much help!) sure it'll all make sence in the end! xx

Thank you! It's the Distance Learning Centre which was recommended to me on here. Hopefully someone else will enlighten me!? Why do they make it so tricky to understand hey?!

Hi I would ignore the UCAS points system as it doesnt map properly. I am doing the dlc access course and every uni I have applied for has told me the 60 units are fine, but be aware the course is changing to diploma in the next couple of months so we all have to do extra biology and i.t so that will bump up your units as well. You definately need to check with all the uni's but I am sure you will have no probs - hope this helps

Thanks so much claire! I was hoping someone would say this! How are you finding the DLC? Do you work as well? I'm worried that this course, plus work and my two boys and hubbie to look after, that it might be v hard work? (mind you not as hard as actually doing the MW course!!)
Thanks sooo much for advice

I am finding it ok actually I have a 3 year old and a part time job but I manage to juggle things, I think you just have to learn to delegate a bit and say I am going to spend the next 2 hours on my work can you watch the kids, or maybe if they go to their grandparents for a couple of hours one day you can get down to work. I am quite lucky cos my daughter goes to nursery on a tues morning and I dont work tues so it is quite handy to use that time if I have work to do!

Thanks Claire! I can't wait to get started nxt year - have to wait as have to do my maths gcse first - don't think I would cope doing it at the same time as access and everything else!
Thanks so much for your advise, I'll check with the uni first and then go for it!

It's true you learn to juggle things, I didn't do DLC, I went to college and I worked part time amd I have 2 little boys. I did a lot of my college work at night after the boys had gone to bed. I think, unless you have a partner who is good at housework (not like mine),or you are super duper organised (like I'm not) you just have to accept that the house will be a bombsite when you have assignments to do. You can't do everything, well I couldn't anyway.

Hmmmmm... neither hubbie or I have time for housework at the moment anyway so it will be nothing new! Thanks for advice, it's so good to hear that others are managing - it worries me but if others can do it then so can I!!
