Default Questions!!!

just wonderin if anyone knew how many places there are available at Wolverhampton uni? Also how many night shifts do you have to do? Are you more likely to get a job at the end of the course in a hospital or as a community midwife? Thanks xx

Hi Becky, no idea re speciifc Wolves questions, there are a few gals from there on here so they may answer those for you.

Very few trusts offer community midwifery positions at newly qualified midwives, they prefer post-qual experience and going up a banding from 5 to 6. This usually takes a year or two and involves consolidating skills and developing advanced skills such as suturing and cannulation. So it may differ from where you are, but most trusts do this. Hospital is prob where you'll start out.

Hi Becky

I am applying to wolves. As far as i know if there is a job available they will interview you for it and try to offer you something even part time when they can. Thay have two intakes a year, one in February and one in September (usually) and they take 15 people in each intake. You have to do night shifts, depends which hospital your at (i know at burton you usually do a week on nights, a week on days etc) but you may have to follow your mentors (i was never told this though). I don't know if you can work in the community until you have some experience. Adverts for community midwives usually ask for experience anyway. Good luck, what year are you thinking of applying for? xxx
