Default Work Experience - Got some! now what?! HELP!

Hi Everyone!

I have for a little while now been trying to get some work experience working alongside a midwife. The trusts in my area do not accept volunteers on the maternity wards. I have contacted a local midwife who is very good and has recently been up for an award because of her good work in the NHS where I live.

She said I can go along to as many of her classes as I like! I am really chuffed too bits! I go to my first class tomorrow which is for teenage mums - it is just a sort of get together group for mums or mums to be, under the age of 20.

All of a sudden I have nerves....I don't know why! I am now starting to think...what should I talk about, what should I ask, what should I do.....what an idiot I feel - it should come natural I suppose - It's just because I don't have any hands on experience up until now!

I was also thinking abuot just going casual since it is a casual gathering... was going to go jeans but smart casual so a nice vest top and a shrug as it is quite warm here at the mo.

What does everyone think? Sorry for the babbling but you girls give good advice!

great news!! I am not surprised you're nervous, I still get nervous doing a shift or working with even my mentor, it's all scary at times!

Re clothes those sound appropriate, I 'd never say jeans are trousers or a skirt and your vest and shrug sound cool!!

Enjoy yourself, take a note pad and ask questions when you can maybe make a note of those too?

Good luck, let us know how it goes?

I wouldn't but it is informal, so you could I guess, Just my opinion that I wouldn't, as we werenot allowed to with community midwives or at the birthing centre, I guess it is not so important as you are there to watch as part of your shadowing experience

SO up to you! JMO
