Hey ladies,
Im looking to apply for a midwifery course, but will be doing an access course first. I have requested an application form which will arrive soon hopefully. I am 22 & have 3 children, they are 3,2 & 6 months. I am just wondering if anyone can give me any advice on the way it all works? Time frames etc? xx

Hey Gemma, welcome to the site!
What time frames are you thinking, hun? how long it all takes etc? Access will take you a year to complete full-time, 2 years part-time. You need to apply for your uni place the previous year. SO for September 09 you need to apply sep 08. Beware though some uni's will not accept applicants who have not finished their access course. My uni was not one of those and I think genreally they do, but some do not. SO check with your chosen uni/s. you'll recieve a postcard usually within a few weeks of applying via UCAS, thne within 2-3 months recieve (hopefully) a letter requesting your presence at an interview this usually arrives two or three weeks prior to the date. Then you may have to wait between 2 weeks and three months for notification as to whether you have got a place or not! The course takes three years divided up differently according to the universities. Our uni is having a massive course shake-up as may others, for specific course details it is always a good idea to check with your uni or ask on here and someone usually knows! I hope that's what you wanted?!

Hi there, thanks for your reply!
Yes that was what I was looking for thanks! Just to check something tho, if I was to do college access part time, does that mean i would only apply for uni next sept in order to start uni in sept 2010? x

My college do part time access in a year, but you are expected to study a lot at home.
Also had to say I am starting an access course this year. I am 23, with three children with me 4,3, and 12 weeks, quite similar.

Hi Gema, good luck and welcome to the site!
It is tough juggling a family and studies but you manage to fit it in if you really want to, doing studying when the kids are in bed or getting the grandparents to have them on your day off, that kind of thing. I just finished access so if you need any help, just ask!

Hi - i have a year old and a four year old so studies and access could sometimes be tricky - you'll find a way through it.
Don't be put off by anyone telling you that its too much - if its what you want and you have a good support network nothing is impossible Very best of luck

Hi there and welcome to SMNet. I've just finished my Access course too; it's hard work (especially juggling with a family!) but great fun. I absolutely loved it!
Anything we can help with, let us know. Best of luck with the course and the Uni applications X
