Hi All, Nice to meet you all.
I am very interested in studying to become a midwife, and am on this site daily reading all of the threads and wishing it was me able to write about my experiences. I have a BTEC National Diploma in Care that I finished in 2003, but at that time I had some troubles at home and unfortunately missed my application for Uni. Since then I have been working as an office manager since 2006, but think it is now the right time for me to go back to studying and fulfill my dreams. I have previously worked as Health Care Assistant on a maternity ward, which I did for 12 months from when I left college, but what else is there that I can do to know make sure I get given the opportunity to study again. Are they more lenient with mature students. I am only 22, so dont think of myself as very mature, but I know the University would now class me as mature!!!! All of your advise would be greatly appreciated |

Hey MA! welcome to the site!
Good luck with your application! Whilst there is a large number of mature student applicants, they treat all applicants the same way, not that this is a problem! You sound as though you have good expereince and qualifications, you'll need to check with your chosen uni that the quals are what the require for entry though. It will soon be time to get your application in for Sep 09, there are example of personal statements on here too, and you can always get someone on here to read yours if you wish?

Hi alfie, welcome to SMNet!
Your diploma may well be enough to get you into Uni, but I would definitely say it's worth getting in touch and checking with them. Your age will not be taken into consideration when you apply - the Universities want to see a mature and responsible outlook, regardless of your actual age, so to be honest that won't make a lot of difference. It's great that you've got some work experience and that will definitely be a plus point for your application. Good luck; I'm sure you'll be fine and your passion will shine through! Let us know how you get on X
