Default One thing that bothers me (So so silly!!)

My only little worry ( I know applying is a long way off *sob*), but I am a lil bit concerned about giving women internal examinations and stitching them up!! It sounds so silly when I think about it considering what a midwife does!!!

I work in a very midwifery led run unit and for me its the thought that a woman sometimes will only see me through out their birth and i love the fact hat if she does need stiches that i can do them for her rather than have someone unknown to her do them. Its that bond you buid up with her.
I look at suturing as if its a puzzle just putting it back together. Its not nice to see at first but you soon get used to it like everything else.

I was really worried about ve's and took ages getting used to looking at womens bits before I did my first - it just seemed really bizarre and I did really worry about it - before applying, before starting - and for about a year after! I only did my first ve about 5 weeks ago - but now it's fine! There is a lot more to midwifery than ve'ing and no-one is going to make you do anything you don't feel ready for! I think it's natural to be apprehensive about such stuff - for most of us we've had very little experience of other womens bits in any way shape or form - try not to worry!

As for suturing - that's my next thing - but I worry differently about it now I've got over my 'bits phobia!' - I can see that I might actually enjoy the puzzle side of it - as tink says - and it's fab that the more midwives that can happily do it the better it is for the women - I just worry that I'll be rubbish at it - can't sew for toffee so why will a perineum be any easier - it's soooo important to get it right!

You are not silly, I worry about these things too. As Norman says, not many of us have experience with other women's bits.
