Question What else can I be doing??

Its going to be at least another 3 years before I apply to do midwifery, so I want to do as much as possible to get a place on the degree program.

I start Understanding Health and Social Care with the OU in October, and may do Human Biology and some others after that.

I may have to resit GCSE maths too.

Currently I am a full time stay at home mum to 3 children.

What else can I be doing in the mean time, bearing in mind my partner works nights and dont have childcare???

Some kind of experience too would be cool?

So shadowing a midwife or something?

Hiya, i volenteer at my local hospitals and you just turn up whenever you can. They don't hold you to it so theres no definate shift to stick to, you simply go as and when you can. Hope this helps x

If you hang around here with us for three years you wont need any training !!!! LOL.

Voluntary work is a great option and if you can get some with surestart they put your babies in their nursery while you volunteer !!

Did u breastfeed any of your children? If so get in touch with your local hospital to see if they have volunteer breastfeeding peer supporters - thats what I am doing - its great experience and I get to work with the midwives

Still - you did try and if you speak to the hospital and explain that you want to be a midwife and the experience would be great for you and that you realise the problems involved in breastfeeding - they may let it go. In my trust you were suppossed to of successfully breastfed your baby exclusively for 6 months I only managed for a couple of weeks but because they knew I wanted to be a midwife they put me forward for the training anyway and to be honest - the training was so good even if you hadnt had a baby you could teach someone all the things they need to know - its always worth a shot!

Hi as others have said you will be very busy. I have 2kids 14months and 2months. I'm going to do as much as I can. Hubby is in the forces so bit difficult arrnaging things. Hoping to get a 3yr extention here. I was going to re do Maths and English through the army learbing centre as it's free but been told some uni's may not accept these( oxford and cambridge) so I may be better to go to college and do the GCSE. I would ideally like to start an access course in 2or 3yrs.
