How hard is it?

To get onto a conversion course (from nursing to midwifery)?

It seems lots of people have found it tricky...

The places are very limited and in most parts of the country the conversion is being fazed out and will eventually not exist.

I know places are very limited - someone told me there are 2 at my place of choice, which makes me go eep!

Do you know when they are phasing it out?

Not sure but you would be better to ring the Universities you are interested in and ask them.

I know our uni didnt run it last year but have brought it back this year and i think have offered about 16-20 places for it. Im not sure if they are going to be running it every year though because like CB has said they are fazing it out i think, give the unis you are wanting to apply to a ring to find out for definate..

napier has 1 intake per year and take on 15 students..... the course is actually 20 months long now and not 18.

you are either based at RIE or SJH.... you choose where when you start.... although occasionally you may have to do a placement at the other.... for community they usually try and place you somewhere nearby.

i was mostly at SJH and community was sighthill.

fairly disorganised uni as are most... its difficult to get parked at comely bank as its staff parking only and the surrounding area is all pay and display which is a right bugger.

the year i did the course we had 27 instead of 15 as they accepted everybody who applied... the year before only 6 turned up out of the 15 accepted.

not sure when exactly edinburgh finishes up but napier usually starts around the last week of sept so if you will be finished nursing by then id advise contacting george petrie (head of admissions) or cherie (sherry) finlay (programme leader) about a year before hand if you plan to start midder straight from qualifying.

if your not on the bank already id advise joining now as an HCA so that when you qualify they will keep you on as an RN other wise you wont be able to bank unless you have 6 mths RN experience.
