hi all,
I am currently in Norwich and applying there for my first choice. BUT I may move back to London, so am putting down kings, city and greenwich too. I'll only move back if I dont get UEA and get one of these (Greenwich first choice inLondon). I'ma single mum, and my ex husband will be staying in Norfolk. He doesnt help out anyway and certainly wouldnt do any nights so I am on my own. I wanted to know - any single mums at these unis? How do you find the placements? do you NEED a car as one would in norfolk? How do you get around town - do you do many placement in town? what are the hours/days like - theory and practice? I will be going to open days, but I just want to get some stuff sorted in my head first. thanks in advance!!! Amanda x

Hi I am at City the placements depend on which hospital you are placed at. Most of us manage on public transport, there is no parking in central London unless you pay a huge amount, plus the congestion charge so the bus or tube is much better. In the first year we started with 10 weeks in uni then 10 weeks in placement. Uni hours are mainly 9 am start, finish between 3 and 6.30pm, we usually only get one late lecture a week and tend to start later that day. The lectures are at varous sites, but all easy to get to on public transport. HTH. Busy

thanks student! I lived in london until 3 years ago - around new cross, greenwich etc.but since moving away I have gotten myself all scared!
2 days on placement is good... is that for the whole of the first year? just thinking of childcare. UEA do rotation in weeks: 6-7-6 theory-practice-theory. they also tailor their hours to parents up here, very child friendly. didnt know if other unis did that! particularly interested in greenwich

Hi Amanda! It might be worth you sending a PM to cat or keeley; they've both got kiddies (keeley's are definitely very young), so might be able to help you out.
With regards the placements, I know that at Greenwich they do block placements - 6 weeks uni, 6/8 weeks placement throughout the year. Let me know how you get on, hon; might be seeing you in May after all! Take care, Clare X
