Default wannabe!

Hi im carly, iv introduced myself on newbies section.
Would really love to go into midwifery however im unsure financially i can do it.
Iv spoken to cardiff uni who said they would take me on, and swansea uni said they would take me on with the access course of which im prepared to do.
Just wondering is it just the NHS bursary that we get in wales if we are not in reciept of benefit?
My boyfriend gets a payrise in august, enough for me to start uni next sept, but im dying to get started now, is there any other way of financially seeing it through aswell as the bursary? i have a mortgage which im sure many of you do and so id like to know how you all do it?
Also if i cant start until next year, other than the NHS jobsite, is there anywhere I can find jobs as maternity assistants?

Many thanks in advance xxx

Hi Carly,

There are a few Welsh lasses on here who will probably be able to give you more definitive answer, but I believe in Wales you're entitled to a non-means tested NHS Bursary throughout your training, which should be around about £6,000 per year.

As you are entitled to a non-means tested bursary, you are unable to apply for a student loan, so any supplementary loans would have to be private, or secured against your property.

With regard to the job situation, some hospitals will advertise their vacancies internally or in the local newspapers. It also can't hurt to send prospective letters to your local hospital or NHS trust to see if they've got anything available; even if they haven't, they will usually keep your details on file in case something comes up.

Hope that helps a little; good luck, and let us know how you get on!

Hi I am applying to a welsh uni - you get a non means tested bursary of 6300 but you cant apply for any other student loan or finance.

iv been looking on the nhs job site (abertawe bro morgannwg) down here but no jobs at all on any maternity departments for a year advertised.
can they only employ people through interviews through the job sites or is it really worth sending a cv and letter to local depatments?
one other question, sorry guys, but whats the likelyhood of getting jobs without moving?
