Hi there,
I graduated in 2002 with a history degree, my a levels were in English, Geography and History. I don't need anything sciencey for my chosen unis, but they did want to see evidence of recent study, so I am doing GCSE Human Physiology and Health, and enjoying it! They told me at one of my choices that I did not need anything very difficult, that I could have just done small course, so I opted for a GCSE instead of A level. If your unis want science then I think if you do an A level that might be best, but give them a ring or email and see first. I didn't want to do Access because it was difficult fitting it in around other bits and pieces. Good luck! x x x

Hi becface, you really need to ring the individual uni's to find out if what you have is enough. I am applying to Queens next year and they told me that my exams (Irish equivalent of A Levels) from 10 years ago were fine for eligibility for course. I asked them if I was to do a biology exam (again Irish equivalent to A Level) next June in addition to my qualifications would that help and she said it would help my application considerably. Best to ask!

Same as above - give the uni's a call - tell them what you have and ask if there is anything else they would like you to have as you're open to putting in some extra study before you start.
I'm off to Leeds and have found them to be a huge source of information that has helped me with my application. To pass on some words of wisdom that someone gave me last year- always remember that no matter how hard it is to apply the uni is on your side - they want the best candidates for them, so they are always a really valuable source of information. And as someone who has just gone through the application process, the very best of luck

Here's the email address for the Admissions tutor at Hertfordshire. As a mature student you may find that you would be considered without a relevant qualification but it would enhance your chances of success if you did an Access course or AS or A level in a Science. I was told that competition is very strong. a.m.1.jay@herts.ac.uk

I'm in a simialr situation to you, except my arts are Music. I am so worried as I did biology A level but only got an E, but it was plant stuff. I did Sports science A level and excelled in the human biology part, but the A level accounts for sports history and psychology, so I averaged a C in that. I think I will try called them tomorrow too, good idea.

Thanks Mads, the girl on the enquiries line was useless and just read the entry requirements from the website, and then put me through to the tutor's voice mail, the only uni i managed to get through to was Leeds, who said I would need Biology or Human Biology at level 3 either an A level or OU qualification, so think I'm gonna do A level part-time at college, gonna ring them tomorrow to enrol before its too late, hopefully i will then be able to use the tutor on the A level course as my reference, as unsure whether my work will give me a decent one or not for academic study.
