Post access course/funding

Hi,

I've had a look at a few posts and have seen access courses mentioned. I'm 33 and did my A'levels 15 years ago. The most recent study was 2 years ago when I did an NVQ in Aromatherapy. Does this mean I have to look into doing an access course first?

Also, although I currently work I obviously won't have the time if I was to do the course and being a single mum of two girls (4 and 2) wondered how i would finance this what with childcare and general living expenses? Where do I look to find out this information?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bexy

I'm in a similar situation as I'm 35 and a single mum to an 8 and a 6 year old.

I am applying to Northampton and they require that relevant A levels/Access course have been taken in the past 3 years. I believe this is the case with most universities so you will need to do the Access course.

I started my Access course two weeks ago and am loving it. I study four days a week over a year but it is possible to do it two nights a week over two years at most colleges.

I am on Income Support, which cover (?????) every day living expenses. I can't comment on childcare as my children are at school but give your local HE college a ring and enquire.

Good luck, N x

Hiya, there are a few of us on here doing the Access to Midwifery via DLC online, this means you could still work and wouldn't have to worry about child care etc, if you'd like to know any more feel free to ask, also as ChickP mentioned a lot of colleges do night courses for people who work, you could look into this also? Good Luck with your decisions x
