i have heard people talking about BANK but really dont know what it is, health care assistant or somthing like that is it?

Yes you can do bank shifts, you'd have to apply for HCA or MCA positions for bank work through your local hospital, you could try the NHS jobs website too. Or a nursing temps agency.

Bank is late notice temporary cover for sickness and holidays mainly

The trust I am placed at only recruit twice a year, so guess you'd have to find out?

Hi there, basically smwife has summed it up, its like agency work I suppose but through the NHS once you are accepted onto a hopsitals bank they will ring you when extra staff are needed for a shift here and there, if a ward needs a HCA, MCA RN etc.... they will see if they can cover it with bank staff before contacting outside agencies.
