I'm not sure if its enough. I have 8 GCSE's and a D in maths. Manchester uni wouldn't let me in without my maths. I think it depends on the uni. x x

Herts Uni didnt get back to me either.
The majority of uni's accept equivalent courses like you mentioned and although some request science qualifications of some kind, others are happy with different ones. What i would suggest is coming to the open day anyway, its good experience in learning about the course, and you will get to talk to them directly so they cant not answer your enquiry

I think if your older and have life experience, they aren't too strict on qualifications, however on my access course last year, there was a lady who was 31 with no GCSE's so the year before they had made her sit 5 GCSE's before they would let her on to the access course. I think if your college has let you onto it, then the uni's can accept you without GCSE's. x x x Good Luck x x x

No you don't!!
I never finished school and I completed the access course this year so it's my only qualification and I got an offer from Herts uni but accepted Beds offer as they are more child friendly when it comes to study days etc and just seemed an all round nicer uni!!

This is info re Admission requirements for UH:
Midwifery at the University of Hertfordshire Qualifications: Applicants need at least 200 tariff points at A level, including an A level in Biology or a behavioural science at grade B minimum, plus O Level/GCSE English and Maths/Science at grade C or above. Alternatively, we accept the Access qualification with 60 credit points, at least 45 of which should be at level 3. Local colleges of Further Education run Access courses - you would need to apply to your local college. There is one specifically for people wishing to study Nursing or Midwifery. There is a fee payable for these courses. Application: If you want to apply for 2009, you need to do so via UCAS (www.ucas.ac.uk). If you wish to apply, you will need to have the necessary qualifications, or be studying or about to study for them otherwise your application will probably not be considered. You should apply between September and December. Applicants who meet our admission criteria are invited for interview between January and April. Please note that competition for places is very strong. For further details, please email the admissions tutor at a.m.1.jay@herts.ac.uk. Due to the high number of enquiries, it may be several days before you receive a reply. Is this the lady you contacted? I got an answer within a couple of days.

Hiya thanks for all your replies. Yes it was Annabell Jay whom I have contacted directly several times. I am going to the open day this weekend and will try to obtain an answer one last time. I'll let you all know what they say as it may affect some of you. That's great to hear foxym.....to be honest I'm thinking more of going to Beds Uni (hopefully) as I would love to work at Bedford hospital after I qualify, so it would be nice to study at the hospital. What makes you say they are more child friendly??? I have 2 kids so I'm interested to know why as I haven't really had much contact with Beds Uni.
Thanks again everyone xxx

Their uni days are 10 til 4 (most days finishing at 3) and no uni days in half terms etc and they seemed to want to fit things around people knowing how difficult it is with kids etc whereas I didn't get that impression from Herts and people I know who are already at Herts uni said that no allowances were made for people with children and they were quite strict there??
