Hello!
I am new to this site and am currently applying for a midwifery course in September. The only thing that is really putting me off is my age concerns, I have been told by my school careers adviser that I will not get into a midwifery course due to my age. I am 18 and am in the last year of my A Levels, is this true? Thank you so much!

SophieJane,
On my course we had a wide range of people from 18/19 up to 50. The majority were in their late 20s and early 30s, but there is nothing to say that you wouldn't get in on the basis of your age. It is really competitive though, many unis have more than 20 applicants for every place - so rather than focussing on your age, you need to think about why you want to be a midwife and what you can bring to the course and the profession - in short - why should they pick you

Hey SophieJane
Your careers advisor sure knows how to boost your confidence! Your definately not to young, i'm gonna be the same age as you soon! There are gonna be people same age as you and some who are older- but in my opinion age is nothing but a number, if you have the right qualities, skills and determination to succeed go for it! Go for it my love. In this day and age there is so much political correctness they wouldn't be able to get away with that, ageism or whatever you call it. Well I wouldn't have thought. As has been said work on your strengths, let the passion you have for this shine through and show them what an asset you will be to the profession. Good luck hun ;0) xxxxxxxxx

Exactly what the others have said hun, there is no way you are too young haha! I can't believe the career advisor would put you off!
In our cohort there is me who's 20, and three younger than me! 2 are straight from A Levels, one has had a gap yr and is 19! I really don't think age matters! It's about your passion and what you can bring to the profession! Go for it lol x x x

And young students have good qualities too, as you are probably better at learning, and more used to studying! I am 28 and my brain is a lot sleepier than it was 10 years ago!! And my midwife with my second child came straight from school and she was fantastic!
Good luck! x x x
