Ummm.... I could be wrong but I think the bursary is the same for paediatric nursing and midwifery.
I know how significant financial matters are, but doing something for 3 years where your heart isn't in it, might outweigh any possible financial benefits. Try to think about what you want to do rather than what you should do. Manzy ETA: Uh... I think I read you wrong. You meant qualified salary. It's all done on the new Agenda For Change bands so you could do either role and be in a similar salary position. A band 5 paediatric nurse will have the same pay scale as a band 5 midwife. As for progression up the ladders, I don't know as paediatric nursing isn't an interest of mine. I still stand by what I say. Try to do what interests you most because I know first hand, how positively miserable care work of any level can be when your heart isn't in the client group. I spent 5 miserable months working with the elderly and despite the pay being great, I wouldn't do it again for the world. |

Hun I know it is difficult when we are faced with choices and when both are of interest but within you there will be that voice that tells you which is the one for you. Money is a major consideration in life and it gauls me how much we do have to take it into account. No one would condem you for that my love. You have bills to pay and little mouths to feed but you will manage to do that which ever route you take. The fact you mention that midwifery has the slight edge indicates that that is where your heart lies. Nobody is saying it won't be tough but things in life which are worth having usually do come at a price. I am also a single Mum of four and have been for the last 10 years and so I do understand where you are coming from. You just want the best for your children but they will not be children forever and they will grow and blossom and have lives of their own (and rightly so) and it would be nice (and they would want it) that mum could have a career of her own that made her happy and gave her a sense of satisfaction. Wishing you all the best my love and hoping that you make the right choice for you. Big hugs and lots of love to that family of yours xxxxxxxxxxxx
