Question Job Prospects

Hi there

I really would like to train as a midwife however Iam concerned about the number of newly qualified midwives who actually gain permanent jobs. I have heard and read on other forums that there are very few job vacancies in Scotland (where I live) for midwifes. Im currently on mat leave and due to return to work March 09 and would like to apply for 2010 intake but really cant afford to give up my well paid job, train and then have no job at the end and dont think moving would be an actual possible solution. I'm really confused and dont know where to find the answer! Can anyone help me????

thanks

The job situation in 2013 will be very different to what it is now.. You're asking to predict what the situation is going to be like in 5 years time. that is impossible to tell!

No problem its a minefield out there...If you cant get a job as a midwife directly, there are other suitable positions to take up such as the "baby industry" whilst you apply for every availible midwife job you can lay your hands on :P

Hun if it is really what you are meant to do, if this really is your destiny, then nothing will get in the way of it. I don't mean that you won't be scared or that you won't come up againts challenges but if really is your dhama, your life's purpose, then it will definitely happen for you. Destiny will lend a hand and introduce you to people and situations that will bring about the circumstances that will enable you to fulfil your dream. In all this though, even if it is meant to be, we have to do our part and take that leap of faith, It is there for you to grasp but until you reach out it will always be beyond your reach. Phew.... Don't know where that came from but I would hate to think a fellow wannabe student midwife missed out cos of uncertainty. Lets face it there are no guarentees in this life but better to have tried than to live a life of what ifs? Sending you big hugs and lots of positive thoughts. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The only thing i can add, is if your heart is for midwifery then just go with it and worry about the jobs then.. But im sure the job prospects will be very different in 5 years time x
