I am nosey! And I loooovvvee reading other peoples experiences so, I am just wondering for those of you have children what was your own antenatal care and labour like? What were your own midwifes like? Are your experiences part of the reason you decided to be a midwife?
My own: 1- 17 years old, 42 weeks, 8lb 11 baby boy. To be frank I was treated awfully throughout the pregnancy, because i was a young mum i was spoken to like an idiot. I was lucky and had a 4 hour labour. MW was shocked I wanted to breastfeed and I had to wait 3 hours for a BF support lady to come by which time my son was latched on feeding happily anyway! 2- 21 years old, TOP @ 19 weeks. 8.5 oz baby boy. I have posted the details on other threads but short version 8 hour labour, no support, made my experience a million times worse. 3- 28 years old, 40 weeks, 8lb 10 baby girl. I was induced cos of Pre eclampsia. 14 hour labour. Pregnancy, excellent support, Good support in labour when they were there but at first registrar tried to push me into c section but luckily enough my midwife I had seen throughout pregnancy was there and saved me! Angel was born on the table with no midwife there even though my mum had pushed alarm button about 3 minutes before. 4- 29 years old, 37 weeks, 8lb 10oz baby boy, Support during pregnancy was fab, I had been in slow labour for a week and having to attend DAU for the previous 2 weeks every day as I was showing signs of pre eclmapsia again but didnt want to be admitted as my daughter was only 14 months old. Eventually pre eclampsia got worse so they broke my Waters, 45 mins later Elliott was born. The midwife I had on the labour ward was fantastic, I can still even remember her full name! I haemorraged (SP) quite bad after and had a horrific experience (basically had to have d and c whilst awake as Bp was too high for general. However.....I love labour lol (I think I am a bit weird!) Have also had 5 mcs, so I guess all of this has kind of made me want to be a midwife more, but i knew it was something I would always loved to do. God i go on don't I!!

very much a conveyor belt system. With my 2nd at the age of 28 I had fantastic care from my community Midwife as I had opted for a homebirth. I think the main difference was that I had the opportunity to build a relationship with her. Same with my 3rd born last year when I was 38, home birth, continuity of care and a Midwife willing to stand back and let me do it myself, forever grateful to her. My home birth Midwives definitely inspired me and gave me something to aspire to but my desire to pursue the career has been with me for as long as I can remember, just never had the opportunity...until now.
I might come across as bolshie online but I'm nice really, lol
